Grizzly G8689 Mini-Mill
This is my G8689 Mini-Mill that was once a attached to the G0516 combo lathe/mill. I moved the mill onto a separate base which I purchased from LittleMachingShop for 149.00. This really speeds up the process. Not having to change out the compound feed for the mill table......back and forth...back and forth.....ahhh.
This will also allow me to add power feed or CNC capability to the mill. Not an easy task when attached to the lathe.
Lessons Learned
First BIG lesson. LOCK DOWN THE Z AXIS. I was milling a slot in an aluminum bracket for my DRO...didn't have the fine movement engaged.....and a 5/8" 2 flute TIN coated end mill tried to head to China.....
This thing plunged almost all the way through the top of the T-Slot in a matter of about a second. I'm really surprised it didn't bust a gear or stall the mill...
My first big goof that resulted in damage to a machine.
